Pixel LED Signage RGB Pixels

A pixel is an LED (Light-Emitting-Diode) grouped in specific combinations to form letters, words, and graphics for LED Signage:

  • 1 LED / Pixel = Monochrome Display
  • 3 LEDs / Pixel = RGB Display (Red-Green-Blue LED’s combine to create full-colour messages).

Display Colour

LED Signage Edmonton

(Left) First Presbyterian Church- Monochrome. (Right) St. Paul Elementary School- RGB.

All LED Signage displays are available in two options: Monochrome or RGB (Full-Colour):

  • Monochrome: one (1) red or amber pixel capable of various shades of that colour.
  • RGB: three (3) LEDs grouped together with one red, green and blue component per pixel.

Colour capability of both monochrome and RGB LED Sign displays are different from supplier to supplier. Contact your Blanchett Neon account executive for specific information on the LED Signage we are proposing for your business.

Pixel Pitch

Special Event Rentals- Daktronics GP4 16mm display installed 2015.
Special Event Rentals (Edmonton)- 16mm Display

Pixel Pitch is the industry term for resolution, and refers to the the spacing of pixels (Individual LED lights) in your LED display. In the simplest terms, the closer together the pixels are, the closer you can view the display and see the complete image (without the individual pixels).

Typical Pixel Pitches:

  • 16mm
  • 20mm
  • 26mm

For businesses that expect their display to be viewed from extremely close viewing angles, or wish to display highly-detailed images or content, we would recommend a tighter pixel-pitch. In the City of Edmonton, all standard LED Billboard displays are at least 16mm in resolution.

Matrix

LED Sign Edmonton Parkwood Master Builder

Parkwood Master Builder (Edmonton)- 120 x 288 Matrix

The matrix of an LED Sign display is the number of lines of pixels high, by the number of pixels wide (number of rows by the number of columns).

  • For Parkwood Master Building Photo (Above) the matrix is 120 pixels tall  by 288 pixels wide (120 x 288)

Although the physical size of an LED display may be the same when comparing a 16mm and 20mm display, the matrix for the two options will be different, as the number of pixels contained in that space are different (the 16mm will contain more pixels closer together).

Viewing Angle

LED Signs Grande Prairie

Custom Truck Parts (Grande Prairie)

Viewing Angle of an LED Sign refers to the displays optimal viewing cone where the intended audience will be located. This area is where the display will be fully-readable without any colour shifting.

  • Viewing angles are measured both Horizontally and Vertically.
  • Your Display should be placed so the majority of your audience will fall within the optimal viewing angle.

For Custom Truck Parts (Above), we specifically angled the display so the majority of their audience from the road would view the displays from an ideal angle for best exposure.
